About Us
History
The company was started by Barry Newton in November 1977 to operate as a specialist in the hire of materials handling equipment, such as all types of Conveyors, Builder's Hoists, and Winches. The business started out in rented premises at Wilson Street, Chippendale with 26 Builder's Hoists, 12 Conveyors, one ute and one tabletop landcruiser.
While at Chippendale, Barry developed unique "erection machines" which opened many previously 'impossible' building sites to materials handling equipment. He also modified the Conveyors both structurally and mechanically, greatly improving their efficiency. This eliminated the need for almost all service calls as well as making them much safer.
By June 1980 we had outgrown the Chippendale site and new premises were sought. Premises were bought at 574 Princes Highway St. Peters and, after considerable renovation, the company moved there in September 1981. As the company continued to grow, Barry developed specially trained Installation Teams and developed a team of trained back-up service units, with their own unique vehicles.
In 1986, the company started importing innovative new materials handling equipment from Geda in Germany - Rubbish Chutes, Ladder Lifts and the Star Swivel Arm Hoist. The Ladder Lifts and Stars have been completely booked from almost day one, while it took a bit of publicity work to get the chutes really accepted & moving. These are now also doing very well, and are now manufactured by us. We hire or sell Rubbish Chutes anywhere.
Equipment is regularly sent intra & interstate and the company's market is expanding each month. Innovative new racking systems have had to be devised for the Sydney yard as the rapid growth of the company had been out-stripping storage, repair and manufacturing space available.
The Melbourne branch was opened in 1992. Melbourne has shown steady growth while taking a slightly different direction to NSW.
Melbourne does more industrial work than Sydney, and they are the company experts in winches. The branch has also gone into safety gear in a big way and now has the largest range of all safety and confined space gear that is available in this country.
The company plans to open at least two more branches within the next 2 to 5 years.
In the mid 1990's Barry completely refurbished the company's fleet of wire rope Builder's Hoists. They are now the safest and most reliable in the country. Barry was concerned about the age of some of the older wire rope Builder's Hoists, particularly their mast sections. After much investigation in Europe, he commenced in 1998 importing Rack & Pinion Builder's Hoists. These he had designed in conjunction with Geda and Maber to suit Australian conditions. The company now has in excess of 200 Rack and Pinion Builder's Hoists capable of lifting from 300kg to 800kg.
In 1998 he also managed to find an aluminium Conveyor that was genuinely lightweight ( it can be carried around site by 2 people) and was suited to Australian conditions. These are now a large part of the company's Conveyor fleet. |
